Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to Shakati Beach Lodge?

Fly to Vilankulos — a direct flight from Johannesburg takes approximately 90 minutes with Airlink (direct or via Nelspruit), or LAM (Air Mozambique) flies via Maputo. From Vilankulos Airport a short vehicle transfer takes you to the harbour pick-up point, followed by a scenic 30–45 minute boat ride to the lodge, depending on the tide. As an optional extra, a helicopter transfer (approximately 10 minutes) can be arranged from the airport directly to the lodge.

Do I need a visa for Mozambique?

SADC passport holders do not require visas to enter Mozambique. Other passport holders may purchase visas on arrival, but should check the specific visa regulations and requirements for their nationality when planning their trip. Immigration and transfer documents are provided in your booking pack so you can complete them beforehand.

Is malaria a risk?

The Sanctuary is situated in a lower-risk area for malaria, especially during the winter months, but Mozambique is a malaria-risk region — please speak to your doctor about precautions before travelling. All beds at the lodge are fitted with large mosquito nets.

Can I book just one or two rooms?

No — and that is one of the best things about Shakati. Every booking gives your group full, exclusive and private use of the entire lodge: all six bedroom suites, the staff, the boat and every facility. Whether you are 2 guests or 14, the lodge is yours alone for the duration of your stay.

What is included in a stay?

Shakati is all-inclusive: accommodation, three meals per day prepared by your private chef, drinks including basic alcohol, the return vehicle transfer between Vilankulos Airport and the harbour, the boat transfer to the lodge, one deep-sea fishing trip, snorkeling equipment and free high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi.

What should I pack for the boat transfer?

Wear comfortable clothing appropriate for the water: shorts, flip flops, a windbreaker, a hat and sun protection. Your luggage is handled for you.

How many guests can the lodge sleep?

The lodge has six elegant en-suite bedroom suites and sleeps up to 14 guests (children sharing) — ideal for families, groups of friends and corporate groups.

Is there Wi-Fi at the lodge?

Yes — free high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi is available throughout the lodge.
